Literally, “Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant”. From the translation of the group's Arabic-language name, الدَّوْلَةُ الإِسْلَامِيَّة فِي العِرَاق وَالشَّام‎ (ad-dawla l-ʔislāmiyya fī l-ʕirāq wa-š-šām, literally “the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant”).
