Russian

Etymology

Inherited from Old East Slavic скꙑтати сѧ (skytati sę), from Proto-Slavic *skytati (sę). Cognate with Serbian Church Slavonic More distantly cognate with Lithuanian kutė́ti (“to shake”), Proto-Germanic *skundijaną (“to accelerate”). Probably from Proto-Indo-European *(s)kewt- (“to shake, rattle”).
