תת תרבות

Hebrew

Etymology

From ⁧תת־⁩ (tát) +‎ ⁧תַּרְבּוּת⁩ (tarbút). A calque of English subculture, of German Subkultur or similar.

Noun

⁧תַּת־תַּרְבּוּת⁩ • (tát-tarbút) f

  1. a subculture
    Synonym: ⁧תַּרְבּוּת מִשְׁנֶה⁩ (tarbút mishné)

Usage notes

  • Whereas English terms starting with the prefix sub- are relatively common, Hebrew terms for the same concepts that use the roughly equivalent ⁧תַּת־⁩ (tat-) prefix are less so. In this case the synonymous ⁧תַּרְבּוּת מִשְׁנֶה⁩ (tarbút mishné) is about five times more common.[1]
