كاسه

North Levantine Arabic

Etymology

Most plausibly an extended form of Arabic ⁧كَأْس⁩ (kaʔs, “cup, glass, wine glass”), whence also North Levantine Arabic ⁧كاس⁩ (kās, “glass for alcoholic drinks”). Alternatively from Persian ⁧کاسه⁩ (kâse, “bowl”), which may, however, be an Arabic borrowing (though this is not certain).

Noun

⁧كاسه⁩ • (kāse) f (plural ⁧كاسات⁩ (kāsāt))

  1. glass, cup
