لقلق

Arabic

Etymology

Compare Akkadian 𒀀𒊩𒄷 (/laqlaqqu/, “stork”) and Persian ⁧لک‌لک⁩ (lak-lak). It is possible that the term came from Akkadian via unattested Aramaic, as ⁧بَلَّارِج⁩ (ballārij) is suspect to be from a lost Coptic form, for currently the animal is, despite multiple known terms in Aramaic -, only attested in the literary lects of Jewish Literary Aramaic and Classical Syriac.

Noun

⁧لَقْلَق⁩ • (laqlaq) m (plural ⁧لَقَالِق⁩ (laqāliq))

  1. stork
