نگاشتن

Persian

Etymology

From Middle Persian ngštn' (nigāštan, “to picture, to color”), seems to be a compound. If so, the elements are most likely from either Proto-Indo-Iranian *ní (“downwards, into, carefully”) or Proto-Indo-European *h₂en- (“up, on, onto”) and Middle Persian *gāštan-, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *kr̥náwti (“to do, make, construct”).

Pronunciation

  • IPA(key): [neɡɒːʃˈtæn]

Verb

نگاشتن • (negâštan) (present stem نگار‎ (negâr))

  2. to write, inscribe
