Etymology

From Sanskrit सुवर्ण (suvarṇa, “gold”, literally “fine colour”), from सु (su, “good, fine; easy; etc”) + वर्ण (varṇa, “colour”), equivalent to Thai สุ (sù) +‎ วรรณ (wan). Cognate with Khmer សុវណ្ណ (sovan), Burmese သုဝဏ္ဏ (su.wanna.). Compare Pali suvaṇṇa, from which Thai สุวัณณ์ is derived.
