According to Pokorny, from Proto-Indo-European *wer(H)- (“to cut (off), tear”), see also Sanskrit व्रण (vraṇá, “wound, tearing”), Avestan 𐬓𐬀𐬭𐬀 (xᵛara, “wound, hurt”).[1]

Illyrian *ῥίνος, from Proto-Indo-European *h₃rinéHti (“move”), from *h₃reyH-. Possibly closely related to Albanian re／rê (“clouds, mist”), from Proto-Albanian *rina.[2][3]
