Vietnamese

Etymology

From a Sino-Tibetan language. Compare Phuza ʑɛ³¹ ka³¹ ("door"), Nuosu ꀃꈈ (ip ko, “door”), Naxi ku (“door”). Cognate with Muong cứa.

Related to Chinese 戶 (OC *m-qˤaʔ) (B-S) (SV: hộ) through the Sino-Tibetan root, but unlikely to be derived from it since correspondences are irregular. Doublet of hộ and họ.
