Etymology

Borrowed from Persian غیرـ (ğeyr-e-), from Arabic غَيْر (ḡayr) + Persian ezafe. Cognate with Turkish gayri- (Ottoman Turkish غیر (gayr-i)), Uyghur غەيرى (gheyri), Uzbek gʻayri-.
