Etymology
From Persian تنباکو (tanbâko, “tobacco”), from Arabic طَبَاق (ṭabāq, “a type of medicinal herb”) and طُبَاق (ṭubāq, “(same)”). Cognate with Bashkir тәмәке (təməke), Kyrgyz тамеки (tameki), Uzbek tamaki, Turkmen temmäki, Azerbaijani tənbəki, etc.
