Etymology

From 暗(あん)黒(こく)舞(ぶ)踏(とう) (ankoku butō, “dark dance”) = 暗(あん)黒(こく) (ankoku, “dark, darkness”) + 舞(ぶ)踏(とう) (butō, “dance”), from 暗(あん)黒(こく)舞(ぶ)踊(よう) (ankoku buyō, “darkness dance”), by replacing 舞(ぶ)踊(よう) (buyō, “(classical Japanese) dance”) with the archaic 舞(ぶ)踏(とう) (butō, “dance”).[1]

踏 is a daiyōji replacing 蹈.
