Glyph origin

Phono-semantic compound (形聲/形声, OC *lu) : semantic 辵 (“walk”) + phonetic 斿 (OC *lu).

Etymology

From Sino-Tibetan. Cognate with Tibetan རྒྱུ་ (rgyu, “to go; to walk; to move; to wander”), Lepcha ᰚᰪ (yŭ), Rawang yɨ (“to flow”) (Schuessler, 2007).

Same word as 游 (OC *lu, “to swim”). See there for more.
